Zhuang Yuan Yu Qi Gai is a Chinese opera play with a strong moral value. As such, the projection design is aimed to have a deeper connotation that compliment the storyline, instead of being decorative and “pretty”. The final projection design consists of visuals in different styles of traditional Chinese fan paintings and traditional book art, giving the performance space a sense of antiquity.

In terms of lighting, the design aimed to evoke the feel of different seasons, so as to reflect the different emotional states of the main characters and mood of the scenes.
