My “Perfect” Bride is a traditional comical Teochew opera that is based on a popular folktale of how a materialistic woman forced her husband to divorce her so that she could remarry, only to be accused of scamming by prospective suitors, and subsequent rejection by her former husband. To go in line with the folktale-ish nature of the play, the stage is dressed in panels of fabrics designed to look like an ink drawing of an traditional Chinese book. Bright colours are used on the backdrop and on the stage to compliment the comical nature of the storyline.
